The VW Type 128 and 166 Schwimmwagen were the amphibious four-wheel drive off-roaders, it was being used exclusively by German ground forces at the time of Second World War. 

Volkswagen Schwimmwagens used the engine and mechanical  of the VW Type 86 four-wheel drive prototype of Kubelwagen and also uses Type 87 four-wheel drive Kubel/Beetle. Erwin Komenda, Ferdinand Porsche’s first car body designer, was made to design the car forcefully.
